Welcome VWG Members!

2025 VWG Biennial Guild Show
“Voice and Vision”

Vermont Weavers Guild 20205 Exhibit - Vision & Voice

Guild Show Title and Theme: Voice and Vision – Think about a poem, a phrase, a painting or a photograph that inspires your weaving and we’ll put them together in the show. Pieces do not have to meet the theme, but it will make the guild show that much more interesting if you note what your inspiration is.

When and Where – The show will be held May 2025 at the White River Craft Center, Randolph, VT.

Deadline to Enter Your Work – April 27. There will be paperwork to go with the piece and that will be posted to the website.

What to Weave – Anything you want, towels, scarves, clothing, rugs, tapestries, wall hangings, inkle loom bands, ply-split pieces, baskets, table runners, use your imagination.

Volunteering – The guild show doesn’t happen without the pieces to show, but it also depends on volunteers to help. Please let us know if you want to help out.

2025 Guild Show: Information Sheet

Winter is almost over and we hope you have been able to sit at your loom and weave during the last few months.

The VWG has for over 40 years had a biennial showing of members work in years that end in an odd number. Our next guild show will open May 10, 2025, will be open to the public and on display through Open Studio Weekend, May 25. It’s time to start thinking about weaving something to put in the show. It is meant to be a guild show of our members’ work from beginners to advanced weavers. It is a chance to see your pieces hung in a gallery along with other members’ work. You will have the option of deciding whether you want to have your piece(s) juried or not and whether you want to have your pieces exhibited at the New England Weavers Seminar (NEWS) in either the gallery or fashion exhibits. The VWG Guild Show is in May of odd years because NEWS takes place in July of the same year. NEWS is a regional five-day event put together by volunteers from all the weaving guilds in New England. You will hear more about NEWS and what the Vermont guild is responsible for at NEWS later.

The important thing to remember is that this is our opportunity to share what we’ve been weaving. Please think about weaving something for the show. If you’re doing a run of towels, save one for the guild show, put a little extra warp on to do an extra scarf, etc. The hanging committee always hangs pieces to look their best, so don’t worry about an error or less than perfect selvedges, we want everyone to be represented. We’d love to see your work.

If you would like your work to be displayed at NEWS as well, you will also have to fill out their forms:

Questions? Post to the iogroup or if there’s interest, we can set up a Zoom meeting where you can ask questions, etc.

Weaving Innovations from the Bateman Collection

At our monthly Guild meeting on February 13, 2021, we enjoyed a virtual presentation given by Robyn Spady on Weaving Innovations from the Bateman Collection.

Dr. William G. Bateman created a collection of woven samples that is ominous and impressive, but mostly unseen since Dr. Bateman’s work far exceeds the samples included in the six monographs published in the 1980s by the Shuttle Craft Guild. In her presentation, Robyn Spady shared some of Dr. Bateman’s most innovative work and how he took some weave structures to new heights. Supplemental handout for the presentation:
