Transforming Tools and Weaving Wonders

Suzi Ballenger, a well-known Rhode Island weaver, will offer a Zoom presentation on understanding the equipment weavers use. After all, understanding our tools is the first step to changing and improving the way we use them.

She will identify ways of disrupting the fluid order of warp and weft movement by closely observing loom anatomy. She will also demonstrate how, with this knowledge of weaving equipment, it is possible to achieve fantastic and unexpected effects in our cloth.

Suzi will explore contemporary tools such as: Open Reed, Nami Stick, Railreed and Rigid Heddles and will demonstrate simple alternatives that can be used to transform the traditional grid into a woven wonder.
