NEWS 2007
The Vermont Weavers Guild is part of
NEWS
New England Weavers Seminar (NEWS) is an organization of
several weaving guilds in the New England area. NEWS
produces a 3 day weaving conference every "odd" year.
The conferences feature some 30 to 40 workshops and
seminars, a gallery show, fashion show, and a number of
vendors from all over the country. NEWS is attended by
approximately 250 people.
NEWS 2007 (New England Weavers Seminar) was held at Smith
College on July 20 - 22. Over two dozen members of the
Vermont Weavers Guild attended and participated in various
workshops, the Fashion Show, and the Gallery Show. In
addition, the Vermont guild hosted a very successful wine,
cheese and chocolate reception at WEBS of Saturday evening.
BJ reports....
Over two dozen members of the Vermont Weavers Guild went
to NEWS (New England Weavers Seminar) this summer. I
took a workshop in Woven Shibori with Catharine Ellis
and it was great! There are many people who I want to
thank for the work they did for our guild at NEWS. Sara
Goodman organized and transported our items for the
fashion and gallery shows. Mary Schwartz helped Sara
with returning the items at the end. Michele Lawler and
Mary Alice Favro set up our guild table. Sara and I were
jury secretaries - quite educational for me. Toby
Goldsmith and Margarete Griffiths put on quite a party
for the Vermont reception. The following helped with the
reception - Lida Douglas, Michele Lawler, Sue Smith,
Lorilla Banbury, Mary Alice Favro, Heidi Beckwith, Mary
Schwartz, Diane Yelton, Mercedes Georges, Deborah
Maloney-Evans, Trudy Otis, Ann Steel, and Edith House.
