Vermont weavers make lace in
Laurie Autio's
workshop in April... |
Message to members:
We had an enthusiastic group at the last meeting to hear
Laurie Autio give an excellent talk about lace weaves. She
showed us a beautiful collection of lace weaving samples and
items. The equally excellent round-robin workshop provided
us with great samples of the varieties of lace weaves. My
warp is 10/2 pearl cotton, threaded in canvas weave. As I
saw the samples emerging as members worked at my loom, I
realized what a great scarf I could make with the remaining
warp!
We have had two members step up to fill the positions of
chair and assistant chair for the guild show. We have a new
library committee chair and hostesses set for the next two
meetings. Opportunities still open included a third member
for the scholarship committee and someone to organize the
guild table at NEWS.
To strengthen the guild we need to set up a finance
committee. We would do well to have a publicity committee.
We need to get more effort behind raising money for
scholarships. And I would like those who are interested in
teaching weaving to kids, or doing demonstrations to form a
committee and start making plans. We talked about having a
guild presence at the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival next
September. I hope we can make some firm plans when we meet
in May.
Next meeting is our annual meeting. The budget for next year
will be presented for approval. As most members know our
rent has gone up and dues are going to have to go up to pay
the rent. We will be electing a treasurer, a secretary, and
new member of the nominating committee.
I think we need to amend the by-law to state that the
president and vice-president start their terms in odd
numbered years and the secretary and treasurer in even
number years. This would bring the by-laws into accord with
what we are actually doing. I think too we should remove the
restriction that officers can only serve two terms. The
by-laws require a month's notice to the membership before
voting on changes. We can talk about this is May.
Take a look to the website. We have added the library
holdings and information about the programs for next year
(and beyond). Also members who have a personal website can
ask Lida to be added to our list of links.
Hope to see you at the May meeting.
BJ Allen, VWG President 4/20/08

Meeting Notes.... |
from Mary
Schwartz
The weather report was pretty bad for Saturday but
the meeting went ahead anyway.
Driving down was OK, but those of us in the Richmond
carpool gang chipped ice off our cars on the return
trip. The meeting was somewhat compressed because of
the weather which makes this one of the shortest
reports I’ve done in a long time.....
